A bright shade · 5 pieces

Mustard leather bags, wallets and card holders

A warm, golden bright in five real-leather pieces, led by two bags.

Mustard is the shade for days when brown feels too plain. It is warm, golden and cheerful, and it brightens a simple outfit without shouting. Leather in mustard is much harder to find than leather in brown or black, so wulet makes five pieces in it, including two bags.

What mustard leather looks like

Our mustard is a deep golden yellow, close to turmeric or the marigolds strung up at Diwali. It is earthy rather than lemon-bright, so it feels grown-up. On real leather it has a gentle warmth that changes slightly through the day, richer in evening light.

Mustard pieces at wulet

Mustard costs exactly the same as the classic shades of each piece. If you want a mustard leather bag, there are two. The small crossbody, 20 × 15 × 6 cm, holds a phone, cards and keys under a magnetic flap, with an adjustable strap. The compact tote, 32 × 28 × 12 cm, has an open main section, a zipped inside pocket and two shoulder handles, and is lined inside.

Who mustard suits

Mustard is one of the brights that lead the women's side. The zip wallet, crossbody and tote are cut for her. The card holder and key organiser are made for everyone, so a man who wants a dash of colour can carry a mustard card holder too. See women's bags and women's wallets.

What mustard pairs with

  • Clothes: navy, white, denim, olive, grey, black and deep greens. Mustard with indigo or a white cotton kurta is a lovely summer look, and it lifts a black work outfit.
  • Other leather: tan and black both sit well with mustard. A mustard crossbody with tan sandals keeps an outfit warm; with black, it stands out.
  • Other brights: mustard and sky blue are a cheerful pair. Mustard and tomato red together is bold, so try it in small doses, like a key organiser on a ring.
  • Metal: gold and brass tones suit it best.

How mustard ages and how to care for it

Mustard is a lighter shade, so it needs a little more care than black or dark brown. Over time, handling and light warm it slowly towards a deeper gold, and handles and corners deepen first. Stains and water marks show more than on dark shades, especially when the leather is new.

  • Wipe spills at once with a dry cloth, then a barely damp one. Do not rub hard.
  • Use only colourless conditioner, and test it on a hidden spot first.
  • Keep it away from new, dark denim, which can transfer dye onto light leather.
  • Do not leave it in strong sun for long; bright dyes can fade in direct light.
  • In the monsoon, keep a cloth bag handy and let a wet bag dry open, away from heat.
